Outdoor exercise is good for your health, but physical activity also makes you breathe faster and more deeply, which can increase your exposure to air pollution. Choosing quieter routes away from heavy traffic, checking local air-quality levels, exercising at times when pollution is lower, and reducing workout intensity on poor-air days can all help limit how much polluted air you inhale. Small changes to where and when you exercise can make outdoor activity safer without giving up its benefits.
