Growing evidence suggests that regular exercise can significantly reduce symptoms of depression and may work as well as talk therapy or antidepressant medication for some people. Physical activity helps improve mood by reducing stress, increasing endorphins, improving sleep, and supporting brain health. While exercise should not replace professional care for severe depression, it can be a valuable part of a treatment plan and may offer major mental health benefits when practiced consistently.
