What the evidence says about red dye 40 and your health

Red Dye 40 is a widely used artificial color additive found in many pre-packaged foods, candies, drinks, and snacks. While it is considered safe for most people when consumed within approved limits, some individuals may be more sensitive to it. Research has suggested that artificial food dyes may worsen hyperactivity or attention symptoms in some children with ADHD, and rare allergic-type reactions can occur in sensitive people. For those concerned, checking ingredient labels and choosing dye-free alternatives may be a simple way to reduce exposure.
