Children under eight should avoid “slushy” ice drinks that contain glycerol, researchers warn, after reports that the ingredient can make young children seriously ill. Glycerol is sometimes added to slushies to keep them soft and icy, but in small children it may cause symptoms such as low blood sugar, nausea, dizziness, confusion, or collapse. Researchers are now calling for clearer official health guidance so parents can better understand the risks and choose safer drink options for young children.
