A recent study published in the journal Alzehimer’s & Dementia examining dementia among older U.S. adults found notable regional variations, with the highest incidence in the Southeast, particularly North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, and the lowest in the Mid-Atlantic states, including Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. Researchers suggest these differences may reflect a combination of demographic, cardiovascular health, and lifestyle factors.
