Postpartum psychosis is a rare but serious mental health emergency that can develop suddenly in the weeks after childbirth. Symptoms may include severe confusion, extreme mood changes, paranoia, hallucinations, delusions, and difficulty distinguishing what is real. Unlike the more common baby blues or postpartum depression, postpartum psychosis can worsen rapidly and may put both the mother and baby at risk, making immediate medical evaluation essential. Greater awareness of the early warning signs can help families recognize the condition and seek treatment as quickly as possible.
