Fruit intake linked to better lung health

Emerging research suggests that regularly eating fruit may play an important role in supporting lung health. Fruits are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and anti-inflammatory compounds that help protect lung tissue from oxidative stress and environmental-related air pollution damage. Using UK Biobank data from about 200,000 participants, researchers found that women who ate four or more portions of fruit daily seemed to have smaller air pollution–related drops in lung function compared with women who ate less fruit. While fruit alone is not a cure, incorporating a variety of fruits into a balanced diet may be a simple, protective step toward healthier lungs.
