Desk-bound workers need additional exercise
A recent study published in JAMA Network Open reveals that people who predominantly sit at work have a 16% increased risk of death from various causes as compared to those who are more active. The research highlights that sitting for extended periods of time can contribute to various health issues such as cardiovascular disease, obesity, and decreased mental health. To combat these negative effects, the study recommends that desk-bound workers incorporate more exercise into their daily schedules. For example, taking short active breaks throughout the day, adopting a habit of standing more frequently, or engaging in moderate physical activities outside of work hours.
