MIT researchers have created a “periodic table” of over 20 classical machine-learning algorithms, highlighting how they are connected through a shared mathematical foundation. Inspired by the structure of the chemical periodic table, this framework offers a clearer way to compare and understand different algorithms. Using this approach, the team combined aspects of two existing methods to develop a new image classification model, which showed an 8% improvement over standard techniques. The work may help guide future research and development in the field of artificial intelligence.
