Prof. Wendy Freedman, a leading astrophysicist at the University of Chicago, has been named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025. She was recognized for her groundbreaking work on measuring the Hubble constant, the rate at which the universe is expanding. In 2001, she led the landmark Hubble Key Project, which produced one of the first precise measurements of this value. Earlier this year, she received the National Medal of Science, the nation’s highest scientific honor. Her leadership in major telescope initiatives and her precision in observational astronomy continue to influence the field and inspire future generations of scientists.
