The hidden damage behind tanning

Tanning may be trending on social media, but dermatologists warn that there is no safe way to intentionally bronze the skin using ultraviolet radiation. Whether exposure comes from the sun or a tanning bed, UV damage begins immediately and can occur after just 15 minutes without protection. Sun rays also weaken the skin barrier, worsening dryness, sensitivity, inflammation, and existing skin conditions. Although people may think a subtle tan creates the appearance of a healthy glow, it is actually the skinโ€™s way of protecting itself from serious damage.
