A new study published in the journal Social Indicators Research reveals that owning a cat or dog can increase life satisfaction as much as earning nearly $100,000 more per year. Pets not only help reduce loneliness but also provide companionship comparable to frequent interactions with friends or family. Researchers found that pet ownership had similar emotional benefits to being in a romantic relationship. Experts suggest these findings could influence public policy, encouraging expanded access to therapy animals, and the promotion of pet-friendly housing laws to support emotional wellbeing across communities.
