Helmet covers and concussion prevention

The NFL has adopted soft-shell helmet covers during practices as an added layer of protection aimed at reducing head-impact forces and lowering concussion risk. Early research suggests the padded covers may help absorb some routine collisions, but experts caution they are not a complete solution. Growing evidence shows that repeated head impacts, even without diagnosed concussions, may contribute to lasting brain changes and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Experts emphasize that concussion prevention still requires a broader approach, including rule changes, safer training, and proper tackling techniques.
