Clopidogrel as a new option for some heart disease patients

For some people with heart disease, doctors may choose clopidogrel as the blood thinner instead of aspirin. A recent study published in The Lancet analyzed multiple clinical trials and found a 14% lower risk of major cardiovascular events in those taking clopidogrel. Clopidogrel can offer similar protection against clots and heart events, and it may be better tolerated for those who have side effects or higher bleeding concerns with aspirin. While this isn’t for everyone, it can be a reasonable alternative depending on your medical history and overall risk.
